The Scottrade account will let you buy and sell any stock, no minimum needed to open an account. Alot of the bigger firms have a $1k or greater limit to opening an account.<BR/><BR/>sharebuilder.com is great for a beginning investor. The site is very user friendly. You can make purchases for as little as $4.00, they offer a great number of companies, but not some of the more obscure or lower priced stuff...<BR/><BR/>Enrolling in Dividend Reinvestment Plans directly through a companies transfer agent is also a great way to get started.
